Helping you offer the warmest of welcomes to Japanese visitors

Hospitality Training for Welcoming Japanese Visitors

As a hospitality business in the UK, you know the value of the Japanese market, but do you know how to provide great value and a memorable experience to your visitors from Japan?

  • Have you ever wondered why Japanese people shopping for souvenirs want so many bags?
  • Have you spotted water on the bathroom floor after your Japanese guests have checked out and wondered why it is there?
  • What would you suggest if a Japanese customer or guest asked you for pointers on what to do locally?

Hidden Lakeland’s hospitality workshops for businesses welcoming Japanese visitors to the UK have been created to help you build Omotenashi (or “hospitality with heart”) into your business offer.

A greater appreciation and understanding of the culture and expectations of your Japanese customers or guests helps you to make them feel more comfortable when visiting your shop, visitor attraction, B&B or hotel – helping them to get the most out of their visit to our country.

Tracey Gannon of Hidden Lakeland draws on more than 20 years’ experience of living and working in Japan and four years welcoming Japanese tourists to the Lake District.

Our Hospitality with Heart workshops have been designed to provide you with the easy and effective strategies to meet the needs of your Japanese visitors – simple solutions that will elevate their experience and which will help your business stand out from the competition.

The high levels of service Japanese visitors expect at home are well-known, and these fun yet informative and practical workshops will help you build on any existing understanding of how to meet the wants and needs of Japanese customers and provide insight into their expectations.

And after their stay, they won’t just want to come back to you; they’ll be bringing – or sending – their friends as well!

We offer:

  • Two-hour and half-day workshops
  • An opportunity for you to strengthen your offer to Japanese visitors at a time when you’re looking to increase your stake in the Japanese market
  • Essential language training in go-aisatsu (greetings) and jiko-shokai (self-introductions)
  • Delivery via video conferencing or at your premises when permitted
  • Other training locations available across the region if preferred
  • Accompanying course notes provided
  • Up to 10 participants per workshop
  • Workshops cost £90.00 (two hours) and £150.00 (half-day)
  • Bespoke training available – contact us to discuss your requirements

Further business support including translation for brochures and websites, interpreting signage or in-room information is available from Hidden Lakeland.

Where do the workshops take place?

When COVID restrictions allow, we can come to you to deliver the workshop at your premises but, at present, we are delivering the courses via Zoom or other video conferencing solutions.

We can also arrange alternative locations if preferred to accommodate larger audiences, or for an inspiring venue that complements the workshop content.

Do I need to speak Japanese to take part in these workshops?

No, you don’t, as the workshop will cover some essential phrases that will help you cover the basics when it comes to greeting and welcoming your guests and customers. We do offer further language training as an additional option.

Can businesses club together for a workshop?

Yes, of course – joining together for a workshop gives us an opportunity to build on more of your experiences in suggesting strategies that will work for your business.

I want to extend my offer to Japanese visitors – can you help?

Hidden Lakeland provides a wide range of business support to help you better communicate with or sell to your current or potential Japanese customers. This includes translation and interpretation services, as well as advice on your website and literature for Japanese visitors.
