Early morning sunshine led the way down from Rannerdale Knotts, at the start of a blissful circuit of Crummock Water in mid-February. This walk ticked all the boxes, with the modest high of the Knotts offering stunning views of three lakes (Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater), and the right kind of easy-walking lows amongst the gorse and hawthorn on beaches at Low Ling Crag and the foot of Crummock Water, looking out towards Fleetwith Pike. Simply perfect for a great day out in the Easter break, and with Stagecoach Cumbria’s No. 77 bus up-and-running again with the start of the summer timetable, it’s one you can do by bus, too!
Top tip: Visit Crummock Water again in early to mid-May when Rannerdale Valley and the flanks of the fells over Crummock Water are bathed in blue bells.
